Connecting Darrington to the Sauk River
Darrington, WA is set in the majestic mountains, forests, and rivers of the North Cascades in Snohomish County. Yet despite these awe-inspiring surroundings, the community lacks direct, in-town access to the world class Sauk River that runs through the city. Earth Day presents a valuable opportunity to connect the Darrington community to the Sauk River and restore the riverbank.
Glacier Peak Institute, The Wilderness Society, and community leaders and volunteers will come together for a series of work days in March, April, and May to clean up a city-owned parcel on the Sauk River and create a riverfront park for the benefit and enjoyment of Darrington residents for years to come. By creating opportunities for community members to connect with nature close to home while also restoring the riverbank, this project will enhance the Darrington way of life and improve fish habitat and water quality on the Wild & Scenic Sauk River.
